GRE Exam Guide
About the GRE
The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a standardized test commonly required for admission to graduate programs worldwide. It assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills, and is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
Format
The GRE General Test consists of three main sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Additionally, there may be an unscored Research section or an identified experimental section used for ETS research purposes.
- Analytical Writing: In this section, you'll be required to write two essays: an "Issue" essay and an "Argument" essay. These essays assess your ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
- Verbal Reasoning: This section evaluates your ability to analyze and evaluate written material, as well as your ability to synthesize information and draw conclusions from it. It includes reading comprehension passages, sentence equivalence questions, and text completion questions.
- Quantitative Reasoning: The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your ability to interpret and analyze quantitative information, solve problems using mathematical concepts, and apply mathematical reasoning to real-world scenarios. It includes both multiple-choice and numeric entry questions.

Preparing for the GRE requires focused study and practice. Here are some tips to help you succeed:
- Familiarize Yourself with the Format: Understand the structure of the exam, including the types of questions in each section and the time limits for each part.
- Set Realistic Goals: Determine your target scores for each section based on the requirements of the graduate programs you're applying to. Use these goals to guide your study plan.
- Use Official GRE Materials: Utilize official GRE practice tests and study materials provided by ETS. These resources closely resemble the actual exam and can help you become familiar with the test format and question types.
- Practice Time Management: Develop strategies for managing your time effectively during the exam. Practice pacing yourself on practice tests to ensure you can complete each section within the allotted time.
- Focus on Weak Areas: Identify areas where you need improvement and focus your study efforts accordingly. Review foundational concepts in math and vocabulary, and practice strategies for tackling different question types.
